Hana Highway, Paia, Maui, Hawaii, 2001. Shadowbox fascia.
Hana Highway as it passes through Paia on the south side of the street. This is a work-in-progress of nine buildings built circa 1920's. Colorful and individualized, Paia is big-time model-making fodder for a windsurfing model maker! Each structure was measured and photographed using a graduated windsurfing mast, and then drawn in autoCAD. Working from the CAD files and scanned photos made it possible to reach an entirely new level of detail and realism. All models are scratchbuilt from paper and basswood in HO scale (1/87 scale), resulting in each building roughly three to four inches high and a depth of about 1.5 inches.
The following two structures consist of Hairbenders and the Laudromat located along Baldwin Avenue in Paia, Maui, Hawaii, 2001.
